Curriculum Vitae

 

I am Professor of Migration Research at the Otto-Friedrich-University Bamberg and Head of the Research Department Migration and International Labour Studies (together with Herbert Brücker) in the Institute for Employment Research (IAB), the Research Institute of the Federal Employment Agency, Nuremberg, Germany. I am also an elected Board Member and serve as a Secretary/Treasurer of the International Sociological Association (ISA) Research Committee on Social Stratification and Mobility (RC28)

Between 2016-2022, I was a post-doctoral senior researcher at the IABOpens in a new window, where, inter alia, I led the Project IAB-BAMF-SOEP Survey of RefugeesOpens in a new window (with H. Brücker) and the Project IAB-BiB/FReDA-BAMF-SOEP Survey “Refugees from Ukraine in Germany” (with H. Brücker and S. Schwanhäuser). In 2021, I founded the IAB Working Group “Consequences of the COVID-19 PandemicOpens in a new window” (with L. Pohlan).

Between 2019 and 2022, I was a lecturer at the University of MannheimOpens in a new window and the University of BambergOpens in a new window. I gave a course on Integration of refugees and social stratification (BA/MA), and a course on Introduction into Migration Sociology (BA). 

Previously (2011-2016), I was a member of the Comparative Life Course and Inequality Research Centre (CLIC)Opens in a new window at the Department of Social and Political Science in the European University InstituteOpens in a new window, and part of the research team on the ERCOpens in a new window-funded international comparative research project ‘Education as a Lifelong Process – Comparing Educational Trajectories in Modern SocietiesOpens in a new window’ (eduLIFE). In the eduLIFE project, I analyzed various educational transitions in the life course, such as early pre-school education and care, secondary school, school-to-work transition, and adult education in Russia.

I hold a doctoral degree (PhD) in Sociology. I wrote my doctoral thesis, entitled “The regime change and social inequality: Educational and job careers in the Soviet and post-Soviet Era”, at the Department of Social and Political Science in the European University InstituteOpens in a new window.  You can find more information under the following link: PhD Project.
